Leah Misemer (PhD, University of Wisconsin-Madison) is a Marion L. Brittain Postdoctoral Fellow at Georgia Institute of Technology where is the Assistant Director for the Communication Center and teaches first year writing. She is at work on three book projects: a monograph that explores how marginalized audiences use serial comics to form communities, tentatively titled Comics Correspondence: The Counterpublics of Seriality, under contract with the Ohio State University Press; an edited collection of essays, comics, and course designs themed around comics and mental health, under contract for the Graphic Medicine series at Penn State University Press; and an edited collection of Lynda Barry interviews for the Conversations series at University of Mississippi Press.
Her research combines methods from visual rhetoric with those of print and digital culture, as she focuses on paratexts, such as letter columns and digital comments, to recover and amplify the voices of women, LGBTQ folks, and those living with mental illness. Her published work, which mirrors comics’ boundary crossing by placing genres and forms seldom discussed together in dialogue with one another, can be found in Forum for World Literature Studies, Composition Studies, and several edited collections. She currently serves as Member at Large for the Comics Studies Society.  See leahmisemer.com for more information.
